ISISM & ISIBIO 2026

1. Executive Background

In an era defined by resource constraints and climate challenges, sustainable development requires innovative scientific approaches. Microbiology and biotechnology offer powerful solutions through waste valorization, bio-resource recovery, and sustainable bioprocesses.

To bridge scientific research with real-world application, the Indonesian Society for Microbiology (PERMI) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), in collaboration with host institutions Universitas Udayana and Universitas Dhyana Pura, present the 15th ISISM & 13th ISIBio 2026. This landmark joint event serves as a international platform for sharing cutting-edge research, building cross-sector networks, and accelerating a sustainable global bioeconomy.

2. Core Theme: “Micro-Circular Synergy”

The 2026 conference theme addresses the urgent shift from a traditional linear “take-make-waste” model to a regenerative circular bioeconomy built upon three main pillars:

  1. Micro-Circular (Microbial Innovation in the Circular Economy): Leveraging nature’s ultimate recyclers—bacteria, microalgae, fungi, and archaea—to convert agricultural waste into biofuels, synthesize biodegradable bioplastics, capture carbon, and remediate polluted environments.

  2. Synergy (The Power of Combined Systems): Harnessing Biological Synergy through multi-species microbial consortia and Process Synergy by integrating biological systems directly into existing industrial infrastructure.

  3. Strategic Collaboration (Bridging Lab to Market): Overcoming scaling bottlenecks by establishing active partnerships between academic researchers, industrial manufacturers, policymakers, and local communities.

3. Scientific Scopes & Tracks

The symposium encompasses five core multidisciplinary tracks:

  • Track A: Health and Medical Sciences (Assays, Diagnostics, Oligosaccharides, Cell Factories, Secondary Metabolites)

  • Track B: Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security (Post-harvest Tech, Biofertilizers, Biopesticides, Plant-Microbe Interactions)

  • Track C: Bioenergy, Bioproducts & Circular Economy (Bioconversion, Biomass Utilization, Biorefineries, Biopolymers, Enzymes)

  • Track D: Environmental Remediation & Waste Valorization (Pollution Management, Biodegradation, Wastewater & Land Remediation)

  • Track E: Bioinformatics, Biodiversity, and Biosystematics (AI & Omics, Bioresources, Biodiversity Conservation)
